A fascinating tour picking you up from Inverness airport, station or hotel and taking you right around world famous Loch Ness. You choose your itinerary which can include a Loch Ness Cruise, the Loch Ness Centre exhibition, Urquhart Castle and many other local attractions. If you prefer to avoid the tourist traps we can do that too.
A typical itinerary would begin with an Inverness Tour explaining the history of the castle, the natural history of the river and esker scenery, the story of city-status and the spire-less cathedral. Good photo-opportunities too.
Then
we cross the Caledonian Canal, pass the site of King Brude's sixth century
fortress and approach the dramatic scenery of the world's most famous body of
freshwater.
If you are taking a cruise you will now join the boat for a cruise which can even be combined with a waterborne arrival at Urquhart Castle where our guide will meet you and tell you about some of the stranger features of the castle which are not mentioned in the visitor centre.
If you are booking this tour with Tony, the Loch Ness specialist, he will use a live+DVD presentation to explain the full story of the monster.
If you'd like to know more about Nessie, all of our guides have the inside story and there is an option to visit the Loch Ness Centre for the insatiable Nessie Hunters.
We continue south west along the steep loch-side stopping to photograph one of Thomas Telford's stone bridges and look at St Columba's well..
Next Fort Augustus with Fort Augustus Abbey and staircase of locks on the Caledonian Canal. Perhaps a break here for lunch in the Bothy Bite or Lock Inn.
We continue now down the south side of Loch Ness, seeing the spectacular view
down the length of the loch before the road climbs above Loch Tarff and on to
Whitebridge, the location of another of General George Wade's bridges with its
Redcoat Soldier
Engineer's motif.
The loch is rejoined at Foyers for a low level single track road journey back towards Inverness, passing haunted Boleskine House, Boleskine graveyard and Dores bay where monster hunter Steve Feltham continues his fifteen year vigil.
So if you'd like to spend a day of your vacation in the company of a local historian or history enthusiast then this tour is for you.
Price: £210 for up to six passengers.
