 Fort George

Dear Hugh,

I just want to thank you again for the wonderful days you gave me touring Scotland, while travelling Scotland with my friends Carol Blackman and Sherri Ferris.  I must say of all the days we spent in Scotland the ones spent with you make the country come alive with your knowledge, your attention, and your wonderful storytelling abilities.

You are the one who made the trip to Scotland memorable, and I thank you for that. I will tell all my friends and acquaintances who are traveling to your wonderful country to be sure to contact you if they want a insight into Scotland they would never get otherwise.

 Sincerely Yours,

Beverley Hayes

Dear Tony,

Thank you again for the Macbeth Tour. It was magical. I would return (if I could afford it) tomorrow. Everything was perfect except for the amount of time we were there.

You probably know this already, but there is an author, Diana Gabaldon, who has written a series of novels (a loose historical fiction) about a woman who experiences Scottish history beginning 1743. They are wildly popular here. Many of my friends have read all of them. I tell you this because I can envision little old lady (and really not so old lady) book clubs reading the novels, then visiting Scotland to have you conduct them on the "Outlander" tour. It would be a great addition to your tour repertoire, I think. (If you don't have it already.) Women would love it. I know a couple of book clubs who I am going to encourage in this direction.

Thank you again for your gracious hospitality during our too brief visit to Scotland.

Dear Tony,

We really enjoyed very much our one-day Tour to Loch Ness and other charming sites.

Your commentary during the drive, delivered with passion and drama, was fascinating. Thanks to you, we learned so much about Scotland and its glorious history during the tour.

You aroused my interest in the subject and I started to further research and study your fascinating history. The sites we visited were absolutely enchanting.

We will definitely be back for some more... thanks to you! Tomorrow we are heading back to Israel, with lots of good memories from Scotland.

Thank you again. Sincerely,  Jack & Cornelia & the Girls

Terrific!

We had an extremely memorable tour. We saw so many beautiful sights and learned a lot about Scottish history along the way.

My personal favourite was Tony's ability to keep us all active with his gift of storytelling.

Our tour was a full day and we enjoyed every minute of it!

What a day! Sorry about the 'nines', but I don't believe anything deserves a 'ten' as no matter how good something is, it [is] always possible for it to be surpassed. Difficult to see how in this case though.

Of all the things we did while on our month in Britain this had to be the best money we spent anywhere. I teach history in California and found the way you covered your subject breathtaking and will be introducing some of your techniques in class.

The kids actually learned something today and, although viewing castles can be boring for children, you brought it all to life for them and kept their attention throughout the day.

Grateful thanks.

Tour commentary 2/10; Tour itinerary 5/10; Tour value 3/10

Loch Ness tour is a tourist trap and Glen Affric on a 40 hours rainy period was only rescued due to the visit to the pottery - Tony, you did your very best on our exclusive tour that day - please, do us a favour to inform us the correct manner to make use of the lamp we bought at the pottery - Friday 1st June it was [fellow passengers] Kathie and Bob, who saved our day for us to remember - why all your talk of very, old history - as if we had not read our local books on "The road goes to Scotland" - are you really capable of driving so many hours, talking so much. Ole, Denmark.

Wow! 2/10. It doesn't get much worse than that, does it? All the " - "s above are theirs by the way, not bits I have taken out.

I think they should not have chosen a specialist history tour which, surprisingly, involves talking about our history. The Loch Ness comment is rather puzzling too. We did not go to any of the usual attractions. Also, despite having the use of our golfing umbrellas these passengers did not leave the car at all in Glen Affric!

Regarding the length of driving time, they actually took every option to extend the length of the tour including an optional one-hour loop on Skye. The Skye tour is about 200 miles of the most stunning scenery spread over about five hours in the best of comfort. Compare this to the minibus day tours from Edinburgh which do 400 miles - ten hours in the vehicle!

It is obviously not possible to please all the people all of the time, but at least it demonstrates we will publish bad as well as good. I would hope that anyone choosing our A03ii tour is aware that it is a minimum of an eleven hour day, but other comments about it on this page speak for themselves. Tony

I put together the trip and worried some whether  our friends would like my choices.

Their favourite day of the trip?? Tony!! They just had a great time.

This was the best part of our trip! Tony is very knowledgeable and keeps you interested throughout the day. We learned a great deal about Nessie and about Scottish history.

I'll be glad to do some feedback. Connie USA

Connie and her friends at Glenfinnan.

I took these passengers for a short walk up a hill near the Glenfinnan monument to look at an inscription on the rock which proclaims, in Latin, that it was here where Bonnie Prince Charlie raised his standard triumphantly in 1745. Thanks to Connie for the translation. There is some argument over whether this was the actual spot, but it is certainly more likely than on the site of the monument itself. In the background you may just be able to make out the Harry Potter viaduct. Tony

Tour A03 Eilean Donan Castle and Isle of Skye, 12th May 2007

Tony,   Canty and I want to thank you so very much for the wonderful A3 tour you gave us on the 12th of May.  You were absolutely wonderful!  The tour was wonderful!  The entire experience (including James the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and unnumbered) was wonderful!   We feel like we had a grand introduction to Scottish Highlands, people, history, and culture.

You shared so very much with us, and we appreciate it greatly.   I'm sure you were exhausted after such a long and intense day.  All that effort certainly contributed to our quest for learning as well as viewing.

You are a great teacher!  Someday we may see Harmsworth University sprouting up in the Highlands.   As soon as I can finish organizing the hundreds of photos I took, I'll send you some from our trip.

We wish you the very best,   Nevin and Canty

This was a great tour and well worth the money. Mr. Harmsworth provided a lot of interesting information about Macbeth, Braveheart, Loch Ness and other local topics.

His low-key approach was more entertaining than the fake enthusiasm of the usual tour guide.

He also gave us our choice of spots to visit (our preferences were for Loch Ness itself and wilderness areas).

Mr. Harmsworth is also one of those personalities you hope to meet in your world travels.

We had a medical emergency come up on the day of our scheduled tour. We had to go to the hospital, the pharmacy, our hotel, and the hospital again. Tony accommodated us willingly and helpfully. He chauffeured us around to the places we had to go. After we were done with that, our tour started.

Tony is very knowledgeable. Despite all of the confusion and happenings prior to the tour, Tony made it possible for us to see all that we had intended to see. A huge thank you to Tony for his knowledge, patience, and friendliness.

First let me thank you for the great tour you gave us last week. We all enjoyed the tour, and to keep both Jamie and Anthony interested for that length of time just demonstrates that you must be good. We are already planning for another visit maybe in October.

Before we left, we visited the Loch Ness 2000 experience and it was excellent. Because you were kind enough to show us and explain all the background material before we went, it made the experience even better.

Surprisingly your game is not for sale at the exhibition, which is a shame as I would have thought it would be the perfect outlet.

Kind regards, Simon

This was a family vacation myself my husband and or two children ages 12 and 15. We spent time in London, Edinburgh and other England country side stops.

Our time with Tony and Inverness tours was the highlight of our vacation.

We spent the entire day with Tony he is so knowledgeable about Scottish history and the area. The kids enjoyed all the history about Loch Ness and "Nessie". We had a wonderful day and Tony went out of his way to make us all comfortable and entertained.

Tony also provided transportation on New Years Eve for all of us to a wonderful Scottish New Years Eve celebration with bag pipers what a great night.

You can't go wrong with this tour.

Thank You again. Len Susan Laura and Neil

Amazingly the Hogmanay celebrations at Drumnadrochit took place in the most horrendous rainstorm. It is a credit to the Drumnadrochit organising committee that the events they had organised made you forget the rain completely! Tony
